This book pretty much gives the same financial advice that a competent financial advisor would give except; It puts financial and debt management in a perspective that somehow makes debt elimination seem more practical. Bills and debt are zombies that keep coming at you (like in a zombie movie), and your income is ammunition. If you waste your ammunition (money) on things of leisure for example deer hunting or shooting at the local gun range; when the zombies (bills) come at you, you will wish you had saved those bullets.

Some zombies will always exist like food, gas, car insurance etc. However, the goal in a zombie economy is to eliminate as many unnecessary zombies (credit card payments, car payments etc) as you can and maximize your ammunition supply (savings) in order to always be prepared to slay any new zombies that arise e.g. unexpected medical expenses, auto maintenance etc.

Very good read. Every parent should have their teenager read this book.

A Personal Finance book for those of us who get bored talking about finances.

I really enjoyed the paprallel stories of personal financial trouble and zombie apocalypse - the counter-point really helps drive the urgency in getting your finances together. The author's advice is much better than the nonsense spouted by self-styled "personal finance gurus" whose fundamental belief that everyone already makes all of the money they need poisons their advice by making unrealistic statements: "pay your self first" is one egregious example this book avoids.

Great book and great advice!

Just drop out of your economics class right now and read this book. You'll thank me. If the Zombie Apocalypse isn't your thing (and why wouldn't it be?) still pick this book up and read it. Buy it now for all of your children, even the illegitimate ones since they'll need it most. This is a highly entertaining and educational book that only the cool people read. You want to be a cool person right? Oh and Rick Emerson is God.

"Zombie Economics" is a personal finance guide that uses a zombie apocalypse as a teaching metaphor. It may sound silly, but the book contains real tips, practical advice and worksheets - real substance in other words. But the book also contains language that isn't typical for a personal finance guide. This fun (and oftentimes funny) book makes the subject of personal finances approachable to all. The authors found a way to meld practical tips and advise in a palatable format that's great for anyone who might be thinking about their own personal finances for the first time, or for those who might be looking to give some "soft advice" to an incorrigible loved one. The cover art is creative and fun, just placing a copy near your high schooler or grandkid's Xbox gaming console (or well worn Dungeons and Dragons game) is likely to do the trick.

Most books on budgeting and economics make me feel like the walking dead. Or wish I was one. I love this book. Is there new financial information in it? Probably not. But the material is presented in such a fun, understandable way, you feel inspired to actually heed their advice. If you like zombies and you need a fiscal kick in the pants, it's a perfect combination. No matter what your age.
This book was interesting, entertaining, informative, and a quick read. I read it in three days, I could have easily read it in one or two. They use Zombies as a metaphor for financial distress and it is very effective. I love love love love love this book. I will most definitely re-read it and pass it onto as many friends as I can. Great approach for students, teenagers, or people on the verge of financial problems. Amazing!
