This is the worst written book I have read this year. It uses a horrible tabloid tone of sneering at its subjects, in particular Janet Street Porter, whose words it "quotes" in italicised mock-Cockney spellings, like a sarcastic posh 6th former. The lack of sources and spurious assertions constantly makes me expect the words to pop up. It seems very biased from one point of view on the lead characters, showing few positive takes on David Montgomery or Janet PP, as if the whole This is the worst written book I have read this year.

Some years ago, Chris Horrie wrote the first of what, thus far, is a quartet of lively books about the media. It was called Disaster: The Rise and Fall of News on Sunday. It was a bit of a misnomer. News on Sunday, an attempt in the late Eighties to launch a left-wing, heart-on-the sleeve Sunday, never rose. It was buried within months. After that, Horrie wrote books about the Sun under Kelvin MacKenzie and the BBC under Dukie, now Lord, Hussey.
