It is a very helpful book with clear explanations and examples of problems. Each lesson has a set of problems for the student to work (averaging 30 problems per lesson) that includes problems which reinforce concepts from previous lessons. Therefore it is a continual building of fundamental algebraic skills. Algebra 1 covers all topics in a first-year algebra course, from proofs, statistics and probability to algebra-based real-world problems

Currently, the best algebra textbook is the Algebra and Trigonometry. It is often praised among teachers in high schools and colleges because of the way it breaks down difficult concepts in a simple manner. Good starting point for newbies. Chapters begin with a short overview.

It is an older book but is in very good shape.
