There is a fair amount of fiction written about WW I, but this is one of the better efforts. The conditions were worse than in Vietnam, and everyone who returned had to pretend that everything was fine or be seen as loony. The term 'shell shocked' apparently originated here, or perhaps this was the first British war that affected the general populace.
