Erskine Preston Caldwell (December 17, 1903 – April 11, 1987) was an American novelist and short story writer. His writings about poverty, racism and social problems in his native Southern United States, in novels such as Tobacco Road (1932) and God's Little Acre (1933) won him critical acclaim, but his advocacy of eugenics and the sterilization of Georgia's poor whites became less popular following World War II.

She was a lovely lady and being the eldest child of Marion only remembers her (Marion) as 'the lady in the buggy dropping off her brothers' (as they were born). She said the image of the 'lady in the buggy' stayed with her all her life.

During the American Revolutionary War, Bowie served as captain and later major of a Prince George's County company. He was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 1780 to 1800 and served in the Maryland State Senate from 1800 to 1802. He was elected as a Republican to the 7th United States Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Richard Sprigg, J. was reelected to the 8th United States Congress, and served from March 24, 1802 to March 3, 1805.
