Southworth & Hawes was an early photographic firm in Boston, 1843–1863.

Southworth & Hawes was an early photographic firm in Boston, 1843–1863. Its partners, Albert Sands Southworth (1811–1894) and Josiah Johnson Hawes (1808–1901), have been hailed as the first great American masters of photography, whose work elevated photographic portraits to the level of fine art. Their images are prominent in every major book and collection of early American photography.

The book reproduces the magnificent images beautifully, and was an interesting and illuminating adjunct to the exhibit itself.

Illustrated by Lisbeth Zwerger - Hans Christian Andersen tales. Children's, imaginative Illustrations: Lisbeth Zwerger prints - Love this artwork! Lisbeth Zwerger This reminds me of two things: Helen Oxenbury illustrations and one of the Narnia books. For the collection - Shapton is pretty great, and I know she's started something with hand lettering that might be played out design-wise, but I really like the emotions she can pull out of these simple letter forms.
