Pilkey's idea of placing cut-out photos of real animal "actors" imposed on colorful, cartoonish paintings of Mousopolis really make the book appealing to little ones. His jokes are "wink-winks" above kid's heads aimed at the adult readers. Dogzilla is funny and spellbinding for little ones who want to read it again and again.

It's time for Mousopolis's First Annual Barbecue Cook-Off. Dogzilla rises from a volcano to break up the First Annual Mousopolis Barbecue Cook-Off, and scatter the Big Cheese's troops with her fearsome doggy breath-but the threat of a bath sends her scurrying back to her mountain. Illustrations are painted in bright acrylics around cleverly trimmed and placed photographs of Pilkey's pet mice, cat, and corgi, for a wonderfully silly look, appropriately accompanied by a pun-laden text.

Dogzilla is a 1993 children's picture book made by Dav Pilkey. The book is a parody of Godzilla. Dogzilla was written by Dav Pilkey and was published on September 29, 1993 by Harcourt, Inc. (then known as HMH Books). The book's color images were manipulated photographic collages, retouched with acrylic paint.

Hilarious kids book. My boys (8 & 5) laughed out loud while I read it to them. My 5 year old wants the rest in the series and my 8 year old just confirmed his love for Dav Pilkey as he's read a lot of his other books!

I loved reading this book as a child and purchased it for my son. It's much smaller than it was then, but I don't see that as a problem - big books are harder to fit on the shelf anyways. He was cracking up the whole time.

My favorite niece, who is a book lover like I am, was expecting her second baby. I was trying to figure out what to give her when I noticed her baby shower was being held at the library. It gave me the idea to give her a book that was a favorite of each of my 3 children. This was a favorite of my youngest. I also gave her Just for You by Mercer Mayer and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. I thought it would be a gift that would last and that the child she already has could enjoy too.

My kids adore this spoof on Godzilla. It has silly problem solving, absurd puns, mice, and doggies. What more could you want?

One of my all-time favorite picture books. All the students in kindergarten want to check it out, and the rest of the school wants me to read it again to them. This has to be the most popular book in the school library. Love it!

I first saw a copy of Dogzilla at a dog show in San Diego. It features a Cardigan Welsh Corgi on the cover. Show visitors snapped up the books in a hurry. If you love smart and imaginative picture books, this one is a "must have" for your collection.
I was first introduced to this book by a second grade student who told me Dav Pilkey was his favorite author. I was just impressed that a second grader knew an author much less had a favorite one. After I read this book and Kat Kong, Pilkey became my favorite too! I know purchase the two books frequently to read to kids of all ages. I usually end up giving the copies to some "lucky" kid in the crowd, and I always purchase more for my next reading visit. KIDS LOVE PILKEY!! (and so does this adult)
