George Shrinks (Hardcover). So begins this delightful picture book by William Joyce, who will be most familiar to folks as the creator of Disney Channel's Rolie Polie Olie. George too has his own series now, on PBS, and a spanking new reprint of his original adventure. The story here is fairly basic : George, suddenly three inches small, follows the instructions his parents left behind in a note, to clean up the house and watch his little brother (now a BIG little brother).

This story is majorly picture driven, as so many little kid books are. And the pictures are wonderful! Not only is the story just fun...a little boy that wakes up shrunken, but some of the implications behind the pictures are fun for the kids to think about. Like, how did George get in to that big bathtub and how on Earth is he going to get out?? How might he have climbed up to the mailbox and how did he manage to open that package? And the book starts and ends in George's bed, so was it a dream or did this magical adventure really happen for George? All questions my kids love trying to come up with the answers to in addition to reading what is just a fun story

The illustrations are enjoyable; there are a few fun details to find. But, the story lacks any interest. Most of the pages list a chore or activity that George's parents have left him to do and the story follows him completing them. He has fun and has to be creative since he is small. Unfortunately, this is not a book my three year old requests because it is a short read.

I thought that was a very cute book. I am a writer and this one was very clever and the artwork was great!

A wonderful story - excellent drawings and a totally sweet story. A wonderful gift for friends and family with new readers in the family.

Fun kid's book about a kid who imagines he shrinks while his parents are away. He has to do his regular chores, etc. while being the size of a mouse in his own bedroom. It's fun and I remember reading it as a kid. For some reason the ending has always felt a little lame to me but I'm not a kid anymore...

"One day, while his mother and father were out, George dreampt he was small, and when he woke up he found it was true."
So begins this delightful book written and illustrated by William Joyce. George then begins to tackle the "To Do" list his parents have left him, though the chores are now monumentally more difficult since he is only a few inches tall!
The text is spare, being primarily the parents' list of things to do. What makes the book special are the accompanying color illustrations that show George tackling each of the (usually trivial) tasks. Kids will love seeing the challenges of being really small.
Lots of fun.

I remember this book from Reading Rainbow. I bought because I thought my (7 y.o) daughter might find the concept interesting. Unfortunately I did not remember much about the story and needless to say, may daughter wasn't very interested. The book has great illustrations; that my daughter and I both agreed on. What she didn't like was the story, that there wasn't enough of it.
Great book from a great artist and author! But then again, I might be slightly prejudiced, because I'm privileged to work for him! Check out all his books and movies, none will disappoint!
