Seastruck from the time he read Stevenson at the age of twelve, he went to sea in earnest as a merchant marine cadet in 1942, sat for his Third Mate's license in 1943, and spent the rest of the war as a naval officer on a fleet oiler. After the war he earned a . at Redlands and a doctorate in comparative literature a Pseudonym of Donald Heiney. MACDONALD HARRIS was born in South Pasadena in 1921.

Donald Heiney (MacDonald Harris was a pseudonym) was born in 1921 and died in 1993. He is the author of sixteen novels, including The Balloonist and Tenth. In 1982, he received the Award in Literature of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Sciences for the sum of his work. As I neared the end of the book I knew that I would miss MacDonald's distinct voice and not be able to easily replace it with another, such was my sense of bereavement as I neared the end, soon that voice will be gone out of my day to day and with it that world he created come to that, several journeys.
