Cars, appliances, and textile prints set this several decades ago; Jeffers works in a painterly style that complements the unadorned text: & needed something to eat. He needed a warm place to sleep. In atmosphere and outlook, this book-the first in a series-is a kindred spirit of Marjorie Flack's Angus stories from the 1940s.

Rosemary Wells (born January 29, 1943) is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She is well known for the Max & Ruby series, which follows the everyday adventures of sibling bunnies, curious three-year-old Max and bossy seven-year-old Ruby. Wells has also written Noisy Nora (1973), Yoko (1998), the Voyage to the Bunny Planet series, a Christmas book called Morris's Disappearing Bag (1975) and a collected book of illustrations of Rodgers and Hammerstein songs.

This is an adorable Scholastic book. It is a story about a cute little white dog that escapes from the dogcatcher and his adventures in finding a new home. Any child with a dog would love this story, especially if they had a white dog!

These are well written and sensitive stories about a little West Highland Terrier. They have become harder to find and they are one of my grandchildren's favorites.

My great-grandson, age 3 1/2, loves this book...Starts out with a small, scared unwanted dog and ends with him becoming part of a loving, happy family. Children of this age understand the emotions of McDuff...we read this over and over and over. He calls the book "Puppy" and I am so glad we found it! One of the better children's books I've ran across. No propaganda, just a sweet story.

The story is great and fun to find out how McDuff started out. Our first book was McDuff and the Baby. The illustrations are gorgeous. My only disappointment is that it is not the large size book but a quarter of the size. It was useful to take on a trip but I will look more carefully at the dimensions of books in the future.
The beginning story of McDuff and how he finds a home. Once you have one, you will want to collect them all. I read them to my grandchildren as I have a Westie and they love the stories.
