When spirited and lovely Cathleen Raymond is jilted just before her betrothal ball, she seeks sanctuary at her aunt's estate. Never again, she vows. Never again will she think of marriage.

But then in her wanderings about the estate she runs across a mysterious young man who calls himself Brian and quite takes her fancy. It is unfortunate that her cousin Clare is also enamored of this same stranger.

Clare will stop at nothing to keep Cathleen away from Brian.

But the most pressing problem for them both is - who is Brian?
