This unique duet collection of classical repertoire by Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic.

This unique duet collection of classical repertoire by Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic. These 14 duets are not for beginners, but two trumpet players that could for example, sight-read most 1st Cornet (or the more difficult 2nd) parts from a community band (concert or swing) library. I've played every one during the last year with numerous trumpet-playing friends, and everyone loves this book. Either part can of course, be played alone for enjoyment or practice. For less capable trumpeters, they are mostly playable by slowing the tempo or avoiding some of the more difficult compositions. These are OK just as trombone duets but think twice if considering duets with a trumpet (see my review of the trumpet book). Most of the first parts are written in tenor clef (which I read as well as alto) and are, really, college level. Even then, most of the Telemann pieces are really not very interesting. Generally about half of the book I found not worth the effort to work on. The exception was the "Le Nozze de Figaro" by Mozart. My trumpet friend could play this (written for B flat not C trumpet like half the book) and we both enjoyed it. Was one piece worth the purchase price of 2 books? Well, you be the judge.

Excellent collection of duets ranging from easy to challenging. I've enjoyed playing these with my trumpet player colleagues as well. These aren't for beginners.
