Towards a neighbourhood strategy. This book seeks to examine the response of the European Union to the end of the Cold War in the context of its relations with the countries in its immediate neighbourhood or periphery. Not only is the EU the new policeman on the block but it is also the new social worker. The work is organised over thirteen chapters. Following an introduction which sets the framework, chapter two presents a broad survey of EU policies towards its neighbours and the twin-track approach of stabilisation and integration that has been adopted.
