The Mr. Tanenbaum I have gotten to become familiar with is starting to emerge in this book. Butch and Marlene make both a great working couple as well as a couple. Marlene brings out the best in Butch. This cynical, fast-moving novel, the third in the Butch Karp series, concerns the workings of the judicial system in the Big City. The neat plot combines Satanism, pedophilia, Mafiosi, good-looking.

Tanenbaum returns with Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi - two NY ADA's, in love and working the for famed NY prosecutor's office. This installment in the long running series begins with a petty burgler, Felix Tighe who assaults a NY police officer when he is caught climbing down a fire escape with stolen goods. Tighe is a low life with dreams of the fast life.

At the same time Ciampi catches the case of a seven year old girl found dead in a trash bag outside her building. Ciampi sees abuse and charges Mom. But Karp tells her to ask more questions and Ciampi finds hidden horror.

Another crime comes front and center when a local mob guy is hit and the wheel man runs and contacts Karp.

Church connected day care, corrupt judges, local mafiosos, and demonic sacrifice combine for a disparate story. The child sexual abuse angle is tough to read and leaves the reader skirming.

Not the best book in the series but moves the storyline along. If you are a reader of the series, you will miss some critical information if you skip this but not strongly recommended for content alone.

Butch and Marlene take us into the inner workings of a big city legal system with this gut-wrenching tale of child abuse and societal facades.
They both face cases that challenge their best detective skills and their lives.
The ending is particularly satisfying.
Immoral Certainty is another Tanenbaum winner!

I loved the story, true and gritty, and Butch Karp and Marlene, who kept working and fighting even after being bombed and harmed.

On time and filled in a gap in my Tannenbaum books.

An excellent book. I had never seen this one in any book store. I have read all the others so far published.
Hystana
Lots of action!

It was an interesting plot line but was overly politically “preachy” in my estimation. I am sure that was Clinton’s part of the book process and frankly the book didn’t need that.
Excellent. I had previously read some of this series, but this time I am trying to read the whole series. It is really great reading.
