I really enjoyed reading Suzanne's first adventure, and her second adventure was just as enjoyable

I really enjoyed reading Suzanne's first adventure, and her second adventure was just as enjoyable. Suzanne is a great leading character, but I couldn't imagine the book without her mother, best friend, and even her ex because each bring something unique to the story. Overall Fatally Frosted proved to be another great mystery by Beck.

This is the first book I read in the Donut Shop Mysteries series, and since I already purchased Sinister Sprinkles, I'll probably read that one, but I was disappointed in the writing and the characters in this book. I didn't like the main character. She antagonized everyone (me included), and the only reason this could be called a culinary mystery is because the author threw in some fake donut recipes. The plot didn't make sense, and the parts that made sense were predictable instead of suspenseful. I think the main character of a series like this should be likeable, and the only character I actually liked was Emma, the assistant.

This the second book in the Doughnut Shop mystery series. Suzanne has been asked to be a demonstration chef on a tour of homes, and is making a modified version of beignets. She is being harassed by tour organizer, Peg, who thinks Suzanne is not qualified and may embarrass the tour; however, even Peg can't resist Suzanne's delicious lemon filled doughnuts. When a dead body is discovered before the first beignet is made, it looks like someone is trying to frame Suzanne. She must use her amateur detective skills in order to clear her name and find out who is responsible. Along the way, she finds multiple suspects and receives a threat in the form of a stabbed doughnut. Her new boyfriend, Jake, doesn't play much of a role in this one, due to potential conflicts of interest, but her friends come to her aid in helping her snoop and figure out clues. The mystery was pretty good, and I hope that the characters will develop further as the series progresses.
As in the prior book, recipes are included throughout the book, mainly for doughnuts, but there are a few other fried treats included.

Beck's Donut Shop series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I really enjoyed reading Suzanne's first adventure, and her second adventure was just as enjoyable. Fatally Frosted picks up with Suzanne dating Jake after the events of book one. Unfortunately once again Suzanne becomes embroiled in the middle of another murder mystery when someone dies with one of her donuts in hand. This book is full of enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing, and I just really enjoy this series' secondary characters which really add to the story. Suzanne is a great leading character, but I couldn't imagine the book without her mother, best friend, and even her ex because each bring something unique to the story. Overall Fatally Frosted proved to be another great mystery by Beck.

Certainly not a "page turner" as was my opinion of the first book in this series. Just a fairly pleasant casual read when you don't want to be involved in anything scarey, upsetting or spine tingling (which for me is all the time now). She still just doesn't develop her characters to the extent where you really give a rat's ass about any of them. Conversations between the characters are banal to the point of being "ho hum boring" doing nothing to forward the story. She lacks the ability to make either her heroine or any of the other characters really interesting. As I stated in my review of the lst book in this series, it is a blatant rip off of the Joanne Fluke cookie shop series but not anywhere nearly as well done - not even in the ball park. I think she has fairly good stories to tell, she just doesn't tell them very well. Could be worse. Could be a lot better.

One of the reasons I like this series is because it's not a serious mystery series (i.e. - it's not completely realistic, it's relaxed, has a chick lit feel to it). I thought that this one was a bit more interesting than the first book in the series (Glazed Murder) and I hope the rest will continue to be just as good as this one. The only thing I didn't like is Suzanne's boyfriend Jake's attitude in the book, I felt like even though he's a law official he could have treated her better and tried to help her out some instead I feel like he ignored her.

Compared to other quality mysteries, I would rate this one as just so-so. It was a bit jumbled in spots and there were apparent lapses in the story where a fact was one thing and then later it was something else and no explanation as to why the change. Or..... was it a mistake in the writing? Not as good as the first in this series but better than the third.

My friend enjoys reading her books.
I thoroughly enjoy Jessica's style of writing.. I am so entranced with the books I can't out them down.... I Love her characters they seem to come in right at the right time... George is a real asset to the team.. He seems to find out things that Suzanne and Grace can't find...I Love Emma too... She sounds like a real good employee to have...
