I ordered this book with anticipation, expecting that it would contain relevant epics, real world guidance, simulation models, alignments to different industries, and even some historical reflection on past use of social communication methods and homeland security. I received the book one day and, over the course of several subsequent days, I thumbed through it page by page.

I have no quibble with the mathematical formulas throughout the book. However, for the general practioners or the specialists in security, resiliency, emergency response, or recovery planning - this book doesn't seem to present any discussion that is practical, useful, or aligned to the real world. It also doesn't do a decent job of explaining the math formulas or their practical application. In short, it contains absolutely no content that the average reader can take away for immediate practical use or leverage for strategy or "lessons learned."

I've turned this book over to the donation bin.

Great book for academics and practitioners in homeland security, social computing in emergency management and cyber security. It provides not only the reasoning and models to tackle real-world issues in these areas, but also actionable implications. It presents a useful framework to investigate the dynamics of public perceptions of threat information and their reactions, and how a collective social anxiety challenges the effectiveness of response to a catastrophic event. I use this book as a nice reference for my research and practices. I would strongly recommend it to anyone interested in these areas as a research reference book or textbook.
