2003 Physics Education Conference. Article · September 2004 with 5 Reads. How we measure 'reads'. A difficult challenge in physics education is to design professional development programs for teachers, which can lead to fundamental changes in their practise. We report all activities for physics teachers in the context of the National Plan for Scientific Degrees in Southern Tuscany. The main consequences are limited achievements in school, decrease of students' interests in learning physics and decrease of enrolments in physics in many countries.

Some specific topics covered include empirical investigations of student understanding, the myth of gender neutrality, using mapped samples to look for sex differences, and students' representational coherence of Newton's first and second laws.

AIP Conference Proceedings is a serial published by the American Institute of Physics since 1970. It publishes the proceedings from various conferences of physics societies. In addition to the series' own ISSN, each volumes receives its own ISBN. AIP Conference Proceedings publishes more than 100 volumes per year, with back-file coverage to 1970 which encompasses 1,330 proceedings volumes and 100,000 published papers.
