The approach of Gender Through the Prism of Difference is great and distinguishes from all other books on the market. I like that it's not about women, but about gender; that it examines gender by focusing on how a range of social inequalities and identities impact gender; and that it has a balance of readings that focus on the . those that focus on transnational issues (such as migration) and those that focus on non-U. Maxine Baca Zinn is Professor of Sociology at Michigan State University. Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo is Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Sociology at the University of Southern California.

Maxine Baca Zinn is Professor Emerita of Sociology at Michigan State University

Gender Through the Prism of Difference offers a wonderful global perspective on the interconnectedness of gender and race. It does a good job of bringing together major thinkers in the field of the sociology of gender while also including those outside of sociology/academia. -Maura Ryan, Georgia State University. I love the intersectional and institutional focus. Maxine Baca Zinn is Professor Emerita of Sociology at Michigan State University. Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo is Professor and Associate Director of the Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration at the University of Southern California.

Gender Through the Prism of Difference adopts a global, transnational perspective on how race, class, and sexual diversity are central to the study of sex and gender. In contrast with other books in this area--which tend to focus on U.S. or European viewpoints--this wide-ranging anthology features many articles based on research done elsewhere throughout the world. Now in its fourth edition, the book opens with a revised and updated introduction that sets the stage for understanding gender as a socially constructed experience. Featuring twenty-three new readings, this edition covers such timely subjects as the Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina, the 2008 U.S. Presidential election, female Palestinian suicide bombers, transgendered people, intersex issues, fatherhood and masculinity, sex and immigrant communities, ageism and feminism, Sex and the City, and much more. It also addresses a number of other compelling topics, including the effects of globalization on notions of masculinity, the difficulties faced by Muslim women living in post-9/11 America, and perceptions of "blackness" worldwide. Guiding students through the complex realities of today's gender relationships, Gender Through the Prism of Difference, Fourth Edition, is ideal for undergraduate or graduate courses in the sociology of gender; women's studies; gender roles; the sociology of women; women in society; race, class, and gender; feminist theory; and social inequality.

I am using this book for my women and gender studies course in college. Honestly, some of the essays are great but it can be very hard to read and understand. I wish the print was not so small.

This is a textbook for my Sociology of Gender Class. It is a great textbook because each and every article is about an interesting subject in the field and they are easy to read. It is also good reference for research as each one is a peer-reviewed scientific piece.

There are a lot of books I have to buy for school and this was one of them. While I was a bit leary of some of the chapters (prostitution,LGBT, etc.) I felt uncomfortable with, this book has insight to inequalities amongst gender and race. I found myself questioning my social status and the advantages/disadvantages of my gender and race. Some parts are a bit crass for my taste, but wholefully truthful.
Datrim
Good book. Plenty of information about gender, sex, and people.
Oppebro
Very enlightening, even to someone already familiar with gender issues.
Wish shipping was a little faster. Good book , it came in handy for my psychology class.
