It did meet my expectations, I used it for groups in my profession. I love the book because it allowed the clients to identify with behaviors and habit of the mid brain. How to retrain your brain. This is one of the best books I have used in my 20 years career.

This is an easy to read and understand no nonsense book. It is recommended for those just starting out, family, friends or those well on their way. It comes with ideas, suggestions, simple workbook, lists, etc. it is a great tool and resource to have along with the big book and the little red book

We used this in my recovery group and I found it more than useless to anyone who can read at a high school level or above. It's a very simplified version of the 12-step programs repackaged. Now, for adults who aren't all that literate, it may be a good book. There are a ton of examples to help explain the concepts (obviously not true examples, but written specifically for the book) and silly pictures more suited for kids, but they at least break up the blocks of reading into manageable chunks.

Otherwise, it's a pass. I learned more from the book Recovery Options: The Complete Guide than I did during my two months in group, and its just a description of all treatment options (without being ANY treatment program). Now that's just sad.
This book is a helpful guide in leading addiction recovery groups. I like that it is down-to-earth and facilitates conversations about real life in recovery.
