Excellent book!!! Should be read by everyone who has to deal with someone who has a handicap. Will give encouragement for hanging in there through thick and thin. Mary is quite a remarkable woman and her husband should be commended for his committment to his marriage vows. Many others would have walked out, I'm sure.

Sometimes, not so much. The last 50 pages of the book read like a hasty after-action report, and Andrei should be pretty miffed with his author for imposing on him a denouement, and diminution, not only rushed but, in part, difficult to believe. Yet even here the novel manages to offer hard-won insight into an impossible place. I don’t know if A Terrible Country is good fiction, but you won’t read a more observant book about the country that has now been America’s bedeviling foil for almost a century. Sometimes, love hangs around a little too long. I never thought a thing about the things I said to her And her to me Love was just a word and all our promises we never meant to keep Or so I thought She was a sometimes love But sometimes, love hangs around a little too long. Sometimes a Great Notion, a big book in every way . Kesey's world is a place with lots of space for love and sentiment.

Sometimes a Great Notion, a big book in every way, captures the tenor of post-Korea America as nothing I can remember reading.

It began with a vague feeling—a feeling of "coming down with something. "Twenty-four agonizing hours later, the lives of two people had changed forever. On a warm Saturday morning, Keith Korstjens rushed his wife, Mary, a normally healthy, active twenty-four-year-old, to the hospital. That same day, he was told that she had polio and would spend the rest of her life as a quadriplegic. Forty-six years later, Korstjens has a story to tell and retell--the story of his and Mary's life together since that day, working to build a marriage in a world of respirators, wheelchairs, braces and bedpans. Not a Sometimes Love is an enormously refreshing love story—from start to finish, it rings true in its testimony to faith, hope, and love. It’s a book you will read with tears in your eyes and a smile on your face. Not a Sometimes Love is a timeless guide on learning how to love the way God loves.

This is the inspiring, unique story of a love that was ongoing and lasted for 63 years, 59 of which, Mary Korstjens was a quadruped paraplegic. This is in such stark contrast to so many of today's marriages, in which if you last to middle age, it is time to look for a younger version of what you have. It also is a more positive type of marriage than many celebrities have. In this story, a man and a woman persevered together and found that life is sweet, when you know where you are going and what you are doing and with whom you are going. It does not depend on IF the person stays healthy, or IF the person is rich. There is a sweet maturity and caring that transcends all of life's problems. Kudos for Mary and Keith.Mary recently died, at 78 years of age, she will be mightily missed by all who knew her.

This is a wonderful loves story! Pastor Keith and Mary served God for a lifetime and their marriage served as an inspiration to all who knew them. If you or someone you know is contemplating marriage, read this book! I bought one for my pastor to use in his counseling of newly weds.
