Elder Rulon G. Craven speaks during the April 1996 general conference. Born to Gerald and Susie Schultz Craven in Murray, Utah, on November 11, 1924, Elder Craven was the oldest of four children. He grew up in Boise, Idaho. During World War II, young Rulon joined the Merchant Marines. Rulon was born in Murray, Utah, November 11, 1924 to Gerald Craven and Susanna Ester Schultz Craven and was raised in Logan, Utah and Boise, Idaho. Rulon served in the . Merchant Marines during WWII facing the dangers of war in the Pacific Theater. He also served on the Executive Committee for the Upward Reach Foundation, a charity working to help youth.
