-John Edward, author of Crossing Over. As the daughter of the founders of scientific parapsychology, Dr. Sally Feather grew up in a home where ESP was not only discussed but accepted as a fact of life.

These stories of the extraordinary experiences of ordinary people will intrigue and inspire you as well as convince you that a "sixth sense" is within the power of our minds.

The Gift: ESP, the Extraordinary Experiences of Ordinary People. by Sally Rhine Feather and Michael Schmicker. Telepathy is what most people associate with the term ESP. It is the paranormal ability to acquire information about the thoughts, feelings, or activity of another person-in short, the ability to read someone’s mind. Experiences involving another person’s thoughts are not necessarily the most striking of ESP experiences nor are they the most frequently reported. And yet, telepathy captured popular imagination early on.

The Gift: the Extraordinary experiences of ordinary people," by Sally Rhine Feather, is a capably written extension of the author's parents books, "Hidden Channels of the Mind" and "New Frontiers of the Mind. Recommended for readers with an interest in ESP and other phenomena of the mind

Can some people really see the future, read other peoples' minds, or psychically observe events unfold, as they happen, even when they take place hundreds or even thousands of miles away from them? Yes, they can, declares clinical psychologist Dr. Sally Rhine Feather and her co-author, investigative journalist Michael Schmicker. Feather is daughter of the late, renowned ESP researcher Dr. J.B. Rhine, whose pioneering laboratory experiments at Duke University brought scientific credibility to paranormal research. Using real case histories from the Rhine Research Center's ever-growing database of more than 14,000 ESP reports - the world's largest collection of ESP experiences - Dr. Feather will share with you fascinating psychic experiences that cover a broad range of types, from avoiding injuries and accidents to predicting the death of family members; from finding stolen cars and lost pets to catching cheating spouses; from winning bets and contests to foreseeing the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the 9-11 terrorist attack on America. A trained parapsychologist as well as psychologist,  Dr. Feather uses the stories of more than 200 ESP experiencers to explain what ESP is and how it operates through dreams, intuition, and visual and auditory hallucinations. She explains the compelling scientific evidence for the reality of ESP, covers the research on precognition, clairvoyance and telepathy from more than 50 years of laboratory experiments, including the latest research on the fascinating role played by our personality, our psychological, physical and emotional states in terms of helping or hindering ESP. Dr. Feather examines the psychological impact such unusual experiences can have on your life and offers you helpful rules for successfully integrating these ESP experiences into your life.A Gallup Poll found that half of all Americans believe ESP is real, and 65 million Americans have personally experienced ESP. These stories of the extraordinary experiences of ordinary people will intrigue and inspire you as well as convince you that a "sixth sense" is within the power of our minds.

It is difficult to believe in an experience that is outside of one's normal frame of reference. Until a person experiences an "ESP" event first hand, it is just academic. My experience happened in 1982 when my husband passed and is recorded in this book. It happened; it was real and validated by my family physician who confided that he had a similar experience when his mother died. Healthy skepticsm is good, but do not discount the stories you read in this book. I had an extraordinary experience, and there is no reason for me to doubt that so did the others recounted in "The Gift." We still know little about the functions of our brain and how to control them, so maybe some of us are just open to involuntarily using parts of our brain when we are vulnerable.

THE GIFT is both entertaining and informative, combining stories of psychic experiences with highlights of the history, research, findings, and political struggles of parapsychology. It is well written, clear, and easy to read. In contrast to the smear tactics that have been employed by opponents of parapsychology, this book is totally responsible and accurate. It is a delight to read.

What makes this an important book is the announcement by Dr. Sally Rhine Feather, head of the Rhine Research Center and daughter of pioneer researchers Louisa and J.B. Rhine, that the reality of "ESP" (precognition, telepathy, and clairvoyance) has essentially been proved, not by the stories in this book, but by the laboratory experiments. She says:

"Parapsychologists no longer conduct scientific tests to prove the reality of ESP. There is ample evidence that it exists. ..." (Page 17)

There have been hundreds of studies, involving thousands of people, conducted according to the strictest rules of established science, replicated by a great many independent laboratories in at least 7 different countries, and documented in scholarly journals throughout the world. Of course, for the 65 million Americans who have personally experienced "ESP" (according to a 2001 Gallup Poll), we need no scientific proof.

THE GIFT should appeal to the widest possible audience. It could also be used as a supplementary college text, wherever academic freedom is allowed.

This book constituted my first serious book on the subject. I must say, I was very impressed. The accounts presented in the book were illustrative of a broad range of phenomena and plenty of evidence for someone who has not chosen to be invincibly skeptical. The author is, herself, a psychologist and daughter of renown psychologist who worked for an ivy league school studying these phenomena and compiling scholarly case studies on the subject. I had only recently moved beyond a fundamentalist Christian worldview which had left me reasonably skeptical. But, unless these stories were made up whole-cloth, and given the sources the author gets them from this is absurdly unlikely, then the case built is well anchored and the illustrations given really help the reader to understand the extent of phenomena we are dealing with.

"The Gift: the Extraordinary experiences of ordinary people," by Sally Rhine Feather, is a capably written extension of the author's parents books, "Hidden Channels of the Mind" and "New Frontiers of the Mind." Although Dr Feather does quote rather often from the two aforementioned books, her original material does add an extended and new dimension to the exploration of ESP and The Gift should be read in context with them. Recommended for readers with an interest in ESP and other phenomena of the mind. Especially good for the reader who is just beginning to explore the subject.

This book is an incredible read. I had problems putting it down!! I ended up reading it to friends and family who I thought would benefit from the wonderful stories inside:) If you've ever had unexplainable events to happen in your life, and you've been chastised for seeing things differently then you need to read this book! You are perfectly NORMAL!!

The book gives many clear, well documented case histories, with the assumption that ESP itself has been proven to exist from the Rhine and other scientifically documented experiments. With that background the book lets you enjoy a number of personal histories. The book was in excellent condition and was received almost immediately after ordering.

This book was very informational and showed that ESP is real and how it works. A large part of this book consists of real life experiences of real people that have encountered ESP, most of these are every interesting and entertaining. I would recommend this novel to anyone who has an interest in ESP or if they must read a book for a psychology class (which is the case with me), I would recommend this one.
It is important to remember within improbabilities exist probabilities. These can be very odd and give the illusion of pattern, or
apophenia. If you rearrange the letters in the words "William Shakespeare" you can spell: "Here was I like a Psalm."
For several decades, some theorists suggested William Shakespeare placed his mark on the translated text of Psalm 46 that appears in the King James Bible, although many scholars view this as unlikely, stating that the translations were probably agreed upon by a committee of scholars. The 46th word from the beginning of Psalm 46 is "shake" and the 46th word from the end ("speare" in the original spelling). Shakespeare was in King James' service during the preparation of the King James Bible, and was generally considered to be 46 YEARS OLD in 1611 when the translation was completed. A very popular apophenia is the "Man in the Moon." It is unlikely an arranged structure
created by intelligent beings . If I am thinking about my deceased spouse and the television comes on by itself and a show appears
about ghosts.... it is likely just an odd coincidence, a probability within improbabilities.
