You and Me Tracklist. 8. Ladies First Lyrics. 18. Glad To Have A Friend Like You Lyrics You and Me. Free to B.

The book and album had released back in November of 1972. These are five of the scenes that I thought you would enjoy from Free To Be You And Me. Also included are the folks that preformed those scenes. The video was then released on March 11th of 1974 as an ABC After School Special. To be honest I didn't know there was a book until many years later. What I knew was the album and the show on TV. Yes for me the music was what I enjoyed. Listening several times to the same songs and stories. 1) Boy Meets Girl - Marlo Thomas & Mel Brooks. 2) Ladies First - Marlo Thomas. 3) Atalantis - Marlo Thomas & Alan Alda. 4) Its Alright To Cry - Rosey Grier.

I have wonderful memories of this book from childhood and was sad to see that it is no longer available new in paperback. I bought a used copy for my niece and am very pleased with it. The condition is excellent and it's just as great as I remember. I know some people are skittish about buying from third-party sellers, but this book is worth giving it a try. Take the plunge!

I grew up on these stories and songs and literally have every single one memorized from all the time we spent listening to it in the car. I love to pass this on to my friends at their baby showers because every child (but especially every little girl) deserves to grow up in a world that teaches them that they can be anything they want to be.

my wife grew up with free to be you and me. i grew up with a mom who was a real pioneer and ventured beyond what society dictated. i was glad that she was so bold. it helped me to have an attitude of self-determination, boldness, respect... when my wife introduced the album to me, i fell in love with it. it had so many of the values of the 70s and of original feminism. this book is fantastic. it's decent size and filled with lots of great pictures. it teaches invaluable lessons for children. it's for girls AND boys. i can't say enough about it. the 35th anniversary edition - it has survived and flourished and i highly recommend this edition. it's so inexpensive and is a worthwhile read for your children, purchase by libraries and teachers, maybe even some domestic partners ...

I also grew up listening to this music. I bought it for my son and he absolutely loves the silly poems and the upbeat music. I hope my baby girl enjoys it as well. As a female stockbroker who scaled back to 2 days per week in order to spend more time with my kids, I think this is a fabulous collection of songs and stories to make you think outside the box. I know it encouraged me to be strong and stick by what I want to be when I grow up- somedays I wear dresses that show off my knees and other days I wear trousers twice as long (or sweat pants!). As for the poor reviewer who said it robbed her of her femininity- I really don't understand how that's possible. The whole point of the book is to encourage individuality and inner strength to be true to yourself. Cry when you're sad. Be what you want to be. Love everyone as they are. Sounds good to me.

When my daughter was a young child, and I was a lot more idealistic, she had this book and record. We read the book and sang along with the songs. We both loved it.
Now she has a 5 year old, and I purchased it to have it for him. While I haven't given him the book yet, I've played the CD in the car (most of it, skipping over one or two tracks) and he loves it, too.
I highly recommend it for teaching basic principles of allowing yourself to discover who you are and not to be too hard on yourself.
It is still relevant today, 30 years later.
Thank you Marlo Thomas and friends for creating this work of art.

Did my kids (who were the perfect age for Free to Be You and Me when it first appeared) ever love it as much as I did? I don't remember - but I do remember that I, and all my Consciousness Raising Group buddies, on the cusp of women's lib, thought it was funny and fabulous. And I still do. I bought three, for my five and seven-year old graddaughters, six- and eight-year old great nieces, and almost six-year old twin girl granddaughter whose reception of it I witnessed last night. They were underwhelmed. "No pictures!" one exclaimed, as I started to read. When I began to sing, the entire Christmas Eve crew - the two kids and eight other adults - put their fingers in their ears and started la-la-la-ing. But, I have four more girls to go and I have high hopes. I think it's beautifully done and I'm looking forward to reading it to those who can't read and don't mind the fact that the pictures are small, and listening to it read by the older kids. When looking at it on-line, I did find it very hard to figure out if there was a CD included. Did I miss something, or is it not mentioned in the description? Although I was disappointed to find that there are only four songs, it's still on my list of favorites, and I will work at making it appreciated and loved by this generation - including BOYS. Thank you Marlo Thomas!

Still a great book for all kinds of kiddos!
The book is full of thoughtful stories/poems/songs that kids today still connect with. I bought the CD as well as this book and I have both in my 2nd grade classroom as part of our "listening to reading" center. Both my boys and girls love it. As an adult reader, I was a little sad to see that the illustrations that I remember from my childhood copy have been updated ~ but that in no way detracts from the quality of the book and the messages within.
A much-loved and fondly remembered work from my youth that I am pleased to be able to pass down to my loved ones.
