This is the book I was looking for, after poring over it back in the first wave of macrobiotic living took hold with Ohsawa and a rather large following. Then my typical American lifestyle, full of stress, led me to the millenium where I was tipping the scales at 230! It's been a rollercoaster since then, but now, after nearly a month on macrobiotics (more powerful than any antibiotics) I am enjoying very good health, and weight is falling off in chunks. I am down to 180 (from 210) and have another 25 to go, God willing.

My typical food regime:

*Breakfast: steamed kasha with organic brown rice, a cup of fruit soy yoghurt (Whole Soy Co. #1!), Japanese twig tea, (a superb coffee substitute that you can buy on Amazon for $14 a lb., which lasts a year). And for pastry substitutes, I eat some mochi, a fabulous brown rice block available in health food stores that puffs up like mini-turnovers--available at health food stores)--try the Cinnamon Raisin--fabulous. But only eat a 1-inch strip at breakfast! Then I follow with some outdoor exercises.

*Lunch: Miso-salmon soup made with any kind of organic veggies. Two bowls if I am still hungry. (Miso is not dangerous to hypertension, it reduces it (newest studies show no connnection between salt intake and hypertension). I had 170-130 and now it's exactly 120-80--just another smear by the FDA and the AMA).

*Dinner: Organic brown rice, quinoa, kasha, or all three, with stir-fried organic vegetables, with apples added for flavor in place of heavily-salted of food.With a very light workout and a nice, brisk 3-mile walk, in addition to a complete macrobiotic regime, I am feeling less tense, no migraines or cystic acne or arthritic or sciatic pain. That's enough "scientific" proof for me.

If you eat what the FDA tells you to, and follow typically ill-informed medical professionals with no sense of the spiritual nature of health, you'll wind up giving yourself over to the medical industrial complex, and it's anyone's guess how long you will last. Medication piggy-backing, hacker surgeons who want do "preventative" mastectomies, a bunch of loonies. Sure, if I get hit by a truck the hospital's the best place to be, but if I tend my own garden, so to speak, and give my body the nutrition and not the "requirements" it needs, then my ecosystem is balanced and I don't have to listen to cyber-medicine hyperbole. They are too unqualified to give advice on nutrition and health, as they are too busy fighting deadly diseases with inadequate solutions.

Organic nuts and raisins for treats with organic fruit in the evening.

Organic soy products PREVENT allergies; GMO soy products CAUSE them. You fill in the rest. PESTICIDES and NOT FOOD cause disease. There is no such thing as a FOOD ALLERGY; it is the proliferation of pesticides, now over 100 years in use, and contamination of our environment by MONSANTO--the Adolph Hitler of the 21st Century.

Although it looks outdated, the principles described in the book are great. Good book, nice intro to macrobiotical cooking. Would recommend.
