I am reading this book for a grad class. I must say it's very informative with many researches results included within context and discussed. It's also convenient for people like me who did not take psychology prior to child development as it explains research processes and key concepts. I am giving it 2 stars for its condition at delivery. I ordered and paid for a new copy but when I opened the package I found both the cover pages badly bent at the bottom. It's disappointing.

I am an expectant mother with an interest (and some background) in psychology and children's development. I bought this book to develop a better understanding of the stages of children's development and various development theories. The book is extremely comprehensive, written in simple language, with numerous accounts of experiments that exemplify development theories. It is an excellent read.
I agree with reviews above: it is a VERY comprehensive review of much of the research out there on child development, from birth to adolescence. It covers major theorists, major steps in different kinds of development (from emotional to moral to language, etc) However, they were very indiscriminate with the research that they chose to include. Sometimes, the chapter would include paragraph after paragraph describing an experiment, only to negate it by describing its many faults in a small disclaimer at the end of the unit. This bothered me to no end. There was also no rhyme and reason to the order of the sections in each chapter; I think some basic outlining could have helped them in the organization of each chapter.
A valuable source, but frustrating to follow.
