Tellis-Nayak (1988) offers a simple statement about the subjective meaning of quality in a nursing home. LeSage and Barhyte (1989) base their concern about the quality of nursing home care delivered in the future on several factors: "demographics, a possible decrease in functional level of future nursing home residents, governmental fiscal constraints, an inadequate regulatory environment, and possible conflicts between quality of care and life. Indicators of quality of care judged as important to nursing home residents were identified in a study completed by the National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform (NCCNHR) in 1985 (NCCNHR, 1985).
