He was a Fulbright Professor in Rome and Salzburg and was twice Visiting Senior Lecturer at the Social History Centre at Warwick University, England.

Joseph R. Conlin (born January 7, 1940) is an American historian and academic who has been serving as professor of American history at California State University at Chico. Conlin was born in Philadelphia where he attended public and parochial suburban schools and was educated at Villanova University (BA, 1961) and the University of Wisconsin (MA, 1962, PhD 1966). Conlin is a professor of American history. This collection of 55 core documents is arranged chronologically in two volumes. Intended for use in American history courses, this text moves from colonial America to the present and focuses on policy as well as political development. A foreword, afterword, and explanatory footnotes accompany each document. Included in each volume are the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and Amendments 11-26.
