Rick Steves' Spanish Phrase Book & Dictionary. I was very disappointed in this phase book and dictionary. It is smaller than my hand. The print is microscopic and so light that it can hardly be read. Lonely Planet Portuguese Phrasebook & Dictionary. I threw it in the garbage. Today I saw that it was eligible for return, but the garbage is already gone, and I didn't know if I would have to pay for the return postage. I also don't have the time or inclination to mess around with preparing a return and taking it to the post office. It was a big waste of my time and money.

Phrasebooks are invaluable, but for my trip, I never needed to use it.
I liked the idea of having only one phrasebook for the Iberian peninsula, but the Portuguese are accustomed to English tourists, so there was rarely a need to use this. Furthermore, I never went to Spain, so half of the book was never used.
I was still glad to have it with me, and I would give it 5 stars if I had successfully torture-tested it.

This book was very helpful. It was slightly larger than I wanted to carry with me on vacation. Good phrases.

This is a handy, up-to-date helper for people traveling on the Iberian peninsula. More than Northern European countries, some knowledge of the local language is necessary in Iberia. (Actaully, I'm speaking only from personal knowledge of Spain; I didn't travel in Portugal.) The book is divided into sections, including "Basics", "Numbers, Time & Money", "Sleeping", "Eating", "Transportation", "Sightseeing, Shoping & Entertainment", "Phoning, E-mail, Post Office & Red Tape", "Health", "Help" and "Chatting". The e-mail section both tells you how to get directions to a nearby internet cafe and translates operation terms that may appear on your screen. That's very handy if you want to use the internet to communicate with the folks back home or get messages from them while on your vacation.
Overall, I was impressed by this phrasebook and dictionary.
