Selected solutions of Einstein’s eld equations: their role in general . Exact explicit solutions have played a crucial role in the development of many areas of physics and astrophysics.

Selected solutions of Einstein’s eld equations: their role in general relativity and astrophysics. As we shall note in Section ., such collisions may develop Cauchy horizons and subsequent timelike singularities. Later on in this Introduction we will take note of some general features which are specic to the solutions of Einstein’s equations. Before that, however, for illustration and comparison we shall indicate briey with a few examples what inuence exact explicit solutions have had in other physical theories.

We find new exact solutions of the Einstein field equations for a perfect fluid metric conformal to a spacetime of type D in the Petrov classification scheme. We analyse the complete system of equations using Lie group analysis

We find new exact solutions of the Einstein field equations for a perfect fluid metric conformal to a spacetime of type D in the Petrov classification scheme. We analyse the complete system of equations using Lie group analysis. While previous work was confined to conformal factors of the form U U(t, x), we investigate the complete situation U U(t, x, y, z) as well as an auxiliary integrability condition.
