Les Beletsky is a professional wildlife biologist and university zoology teacher. While we were cruising on Rio Negro, whenever we saw some animals (insects, birds, monkeys, caimans), I would check this book to find detail information about the animal.

We will be visiting the Pantanal for the first time this June. These books give us a great idea of what and where we might see wildlife.

While we were cruising on Rio Negro, whenever we saw some animals (insects, birds, monkeys, caimans), I would check this book to find detail information about the animal. When we were in Pantanal, I missed this book since there were so many different birds I would like to learn about. I wish I had this book before I went on the trip in Brazil! I could have paid more attention to the plants and flowers I saw there. We will be visiting the Pantanal for the first time this June.

Not only is the book a field guide to identification, it's full of readable . My only "complaint" would be the weight of the volume for travelers.

Not only is the book a field guide to identification, it's full of readable, informative essays on the country's ecosystems and the fauna to be found there. They ain't Sibley, but then, Sibley doesn't cover capybaras. This wildlife guide provides photo identification, habitat description, and a good overall feeling for Peru's wildlife.

I recently went to both Amazon and Pantanal. My Amazon tour guide had this book and I found it very useful so I bought a copy for myself. I think this book would make trips to Amazon and Pantanal more interesting and educational.

I used this as a guide during a recent visit to the Pantanal. It covered the area very well and was quite useful on the trip. I highly recommend it.

This is not a field guide as I expected. It's a very good reference guide which gives lot of information which covers all aspects of Amazon and Pantanal including its fauna and flora .
But it's not in a very readable format. Fine print with narrow margins. The Book is heavy and hard to carry as a field guide.

Ok as a reference, not a field guide. Book is heavy & the binding prevents it from opening easily. Also because a 2010 publication date, done info is outdated. Still, nice photos & general info.

Good wildlife entries
Zyangup
A dictionary of the birds and animals in the amazon. Good color photos.

I am planning a trip to the Amazon and bought this to help with travel planning. Unfortunately not useful for a tourist. Is a field guide--good if that is what you are looking for but I think title somewhat misleading. BTW: hard to find a travel guide with much information on this area.
