Master Of Pleasure - Penny Jordan. Chapter one. SASHA turned her head to look at her nine-year-old twin sons. They were playing on the beach like a pair of seal pups, wriggling and wrestling together, and jumping in and out of the waves that were washing gently onto the secluded Sardinian shoreline. Be careful, you two,’ she warned, adding to the older twin, ‘Sam, not so rough. ‘We’re playing bandits.

This book was not the book I usually like to read. The H is verbally abusive, scathing, and derogatory toward the h. He also manhandles her and acts toward her with a level of physical violence. Which makes me uneasy.

On the other hand, there is a story of emotional healing and an h who has moved on from traumas in the past and knows how to recognize a healthy relationship. This h has a backbone which I appreciated, and in the end, the H makes real changes in his life to become a better person. When they finally came together at the end of the book (because of course they do, hello expectations of a romance book!! :) ) I felt that the H actually deserved to have the h in his life and I could get on board with their marriage/relationship.

Only 4 stars because I wanted to stop reading, but Penny had very good things to say in this book about family, healthy relationships, and appropriate parenting.

This is a realistic, sexy and surprising psychological book with characters that truly grow thtoughout the book. Takes some time to get into since the first pages are very explanatory and dramatic, but Jordan was always a great writer of characters and gives insight into pasts that affect the future and how to overcome them. Add in some steamy scenes and you got yourself a surprisingly effective story.

Recently I have read quite a few of PJs stories and enjoyed most of them. This book is a keeper. The H and h have had traumatic childhoods and their journey to acceptance and strength to rise above their tragic beginnings is superbly portrayed. It is a well rounded story and shows a strong h and a H who takes longer to realise what he is missing but comes thru in the end. The twins are a delight. A great story.

This is a gritty, earthy, deep story that is why I fell in love with Harlquin s so many years ago. This isn't just sex, it's feelings and emotions.

I normally do not write reviews...good or bad, but this book was a waste of time. Very difficult character development. There was too much reflection by the main characters and the dead husband's character was mentioned too much. I feel like I was cheated in this purchase. Penny Jordan can do better than this effort.

Great read
I love Sasha's fierce love for her adorable twins, Nico and Sam, and her backbone to Gabriel's bitter, sarcastic memories. He quickly sees Sasha's maternal love for Nico and Sam is genuine - 'She kissed Nico on the top of his head as she took the binoculars from him, one arm wrapped firmly around Sam, the other around Nico. There was a pain in Gabriel's gut, a familiar dull ache that suddenly flared into a hot, stabbing sensation. As a child he had never known the tenderness of any woman's maternal embrace'

I love the fight Gabriel has when some HUGE revelations come his way and the fight is on for all things he holds dear - but Sasha's virtuous independence has him back pedaling to redeem himself. 'She felt as though she was existing in some kind of void--something akin to the emotional equivalent of the golden hour after a major accident, when the victim was so traumatised that the body failed to recognize the severity of its injuries. Without saying a word to Gabriel she started to walk back to the house. Sasha shook her head. `No. Your sons, Gabriel, would be as damaged and as tainted by your childhood as you are yourself. An adult can't find salvation through a child. You have to give to them, not take from them.'Somewhere deep inside the most private and vulnerable part of him a long-buried fear was pushing painfully through the protective layers of denial. What if the blame for Sasha leaving him lay not with her, but with him?

My favorite line: He looked round the comfortable, homey room, at the confident smiling faces of the two boys who were now his responsibility. He had been scarcely even allowed to enter the kitchen of his foster parents' farmhouse. It had not possessed the warmth and cleanliness, the security he could see and sense in this room. Like him, it had been dirty and neglected, tainted with the wretchedness of emotional poverty and fear. Because here in this room there was love? Love? A thought as soft as a drifting feather had brushed against his heart, telling him that here, in this private moment of time with Sasha, lay the greatest happiness he could ever know.

A truly poignant moment. So much more rich, well-written passages to be enjoyed - well worth the read.
