Sentimental poetry is a melodramatic poetic form. It is aimed primarily at stimulating the emotions rather than at communicating experience truthfully. Bereavement is a common theme of sentimental poetry. Friedrich Schiller discussed sentimental poetry in his influential essay, On Naïve and Sentimental Poetry. A sentimental poet is described as "He who plays off the amiable in verse, and writes to display his own fine feelings" in Poetical Moods and Tenses.

On Naïve and Sentimental Poetry (Über naive und sentimentalische Dichtung) is a 1795–6 paper by Friedrich Schiller on poetic theory and the different types of poetic relationship to the world. The work divides poetry into two forms

On Naïve and Sentimental Poetry (Über naive und sentimentalische Dichtung) is a 1795–6 paper by Friedrich Schiller on poetic theory and the different types of poetic relationship to the world. The work divides poetry into two forms. Naïve poetry is poetry of direct description while sentimental poetry is self-reflective. While naïve presents a straight narrative or description, sentimental poetry is built around the author's reflections and relationship to the material.

A Collection of Poetry. She slips through trees and glides through clear blue waters. Just this once Death was embraced with acceptance. When the fallen angels in my heart rage against the painless bliss of ecstasy, my soul becomes an object of lust. They cry out in desperation as their seething hatred is surpassed by my soul’s burning fury and promises of retribution. They hunger for a lost soul that persuades me into oblivion for my pleasure alone with fain whispers of a deadly peace.

This is Christina’s second book, she also wrote Poems of Patriotic Pride. Christina’s inspirations for her poetry are the things she sees and feels around her. Some of the poems in this book are poems that she wrote back in junior high. Being from a big family, sometimes she could only express herself through her poetry. Christina loves to write poems for family and friends as gifts on special occasions and sometimes for no reason at all. She says that sometimes she could be having a dream and one will just come to her. In this book is a poem about Christina’s daughter; the words for it came to her as she rocked her daughter to sleep one night. She said that looking down at her precious angel lying in her arms, sleeping, is when she realized what a special gift God had blessed her husband and her with.
