I liked the author's style of writing because it really wanted to make you keep reading. I thought the book was good but it wasn't the greatest I have ever read because I don't really like myths as much as I like other books but it is a really good book if you like myths and legends.

Volume 1. The dragon of boeotia. Chapter I. The Curse. The brass-headed monster, Amycus, who enslaved so many women and battered so many men to death, was born out of a quarrel between Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, and Poseidon, God of the Sea. They both wielded tremendous power. Poseidon means earth shaker, and he deserved the name; his wrath was catastrophe.

This first volume of Bernard Evslin’s award-winning series introduces the monsters, demons, gods, and heroes of Greek mythology Athena, wise and powerful daughter of Zeus, is the most feared of all the goddesses. Poseidon, the earth shaker, rules the sea with his thunderous wrath. Monsters of Greek Mythology brings to life fearsome creatures like giant, flame-spitting wingless dragons, a spider named Arachne, goats and swordfish endowed with magical properties, and the Cyclopes-one-eyed male and female goliaths even more powerful than the Titans.

Monsters of Mythology. This book is a good example of why people like and dislike Evslin's books. The characterizations and action scenes are excellent. Out of all the Monsters of Mythology, this one stretches what most people think of as the established stories the farthest. I would have preferred more back story and motivation for the Lion itself, but like most of the monsters with no human component (Ladon and Cerebus being excellent exceptions), Evslin focuses on the heroes and heroines.

Myths and Legends

The Dragon of Boeotia Is about a prince named Cadmus whose sister Europa is taken away by a great blue bull that came out of the sea. But whale Cadmus seeks his sister through the gods his eldest brother Abas comes across a wandering god named Demeter who is the goddess of harvest and is looking for her lost daughter but Abas being the rudest of the brothers makes an awful comment to the goddess and is turned into a lizard. But in Cadmus's search for his sister one of the gods Prometheus tells him to go to the great town of Boeotia where of course he meets the dragon.
