Home is the tenth novel by the American author Toni Morrison, originally published in 2012 by Alfred A. Knopf. It tells the story of Frank Money, a 24-year-old African-American veteran of the Korean War, and his journey home "a year after being discharged from an integrated Army into a segregated homeland.

Home" by Toni Morrison lacks the amazing and breathtaking descriptions in so many of her other books. It lacks the many fascinating, well-developed characters in her other books, and it lacks the magical and lyrical backdrop that she is so famous for, but what it doesn't lack is its brilliance. Home" is a short novel, 147 pages, and the word count is probably one-fourth her usual word count in books like "Paradise" and "Beloved.

Traduit de l’anglais (États-Unis) par Christine Laferrière. La guerre de Corée vient à peine de se terminer et le jeune soldat Frank Money rentre aux États-Unis, traumatisé et en proie à une rage terrible, qui s’exprime aussi bien physiquement que par des crises d’angoisse. Incapable de maintenir une relation avec sa fiancée rencontrée à son retour du front, il se lance bientôt dans une traversée transatlantique, de Seattle à Atlanta, pour aller retrouver sa sœur gravement malade. Il va tout mettre en œuvre pour la ramener dans la petite ville de Lotus, où ils ont passé leur enfance. Ce voyage pousse Money à se replonger dans les souvenirs de son enfance et dans le traumatisme de la guerre; plus il se rapproche de son but, plus il (re)découvre qui il est, apprend à laisser derrière lui les horreurs de la guerre afin de se reconstruire et d’aider sa sœur à faire de même. Le récit se déroule dans l’Amérique ségrégationniste des années 1950, où les grands changements amorcés par le rejet du Maccarthisme ou le déhanchement d’Elvis n’ont pas encore eu lieu.
