This American Literature anthology encompasses the Colonial to Romantic periods of American literature

This American Literature anthology encompasses the Colonial to Romantic periods of American literature. Although the anthology starts out on a European note with Columbus' "Letter Describing His First Voyage" and fails to start the volume of American culture and writings prior to European discovery of the Americas, the volume does at least provide some American Indian myths and writings throughout the anthology.

Carefully selected works introduce readers to America's literary heritage, from the colonial times of William Bradford and Anne Bradstreet to the contemporary era of Saul Bellow and Toni Morrison. It provides a wealth of additional contextual information surrounding the readings as well as the authors themselves.

Anthology of American Literature covers early colonial American history, beginning with the first English settlement in North America known as Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Among the first group of settlers was Capt. John Smith who written several reports of his exploration that was published in the early 1600. In Smith's published works, his descriptions of North America was a vast land of endless bounty and nourishment, and redemption in what he described as paradise where he later met a young Indian girl named Pocahontas that he had a relationship with, and brought her to England with him where she later died of an illness.

The book covers selected works in from the early 16th century to early to mid 19th century. Dating back to the civil war, and writings from William Bradford, Thomas Morton, John Winthrop, and Anne Bradstreet.

This has excellent writings from the early period of American History. You get a feel for Puritan Theology as well as Native American thought.

The book we ordered was received in the condition it was said to be in. We appreciate it being a true discription and would not hesitate to order from him again. Only thing is it seemed to take a long time to receive and the mailing packaging was damaged.

The book was not in the best condition. Some of the pages were falling out, including the cover. It's a great book overall but would've liked a better quality.

I used this for my literature class and thought it was going to be boring but the history behind the stories is really interesting.
It was exactly as it was presented, and I recieved it before the estimated date.
