Such a good bo. utting on a nice show for the men, Damon told him as he slapped his ass a few more times and Tanner struggled for balance.

Bound by honor men of h. .Such a good bo. Tell them you like it. ik. t, he managed, and Damon put his head back down and continued without a break until Tanner lost track of everything but the all-consuming need to come.

Tanner knew he’d be the subject of the man’s flirtation. Although he’d shrugged it off his entire life, the looks and stares and come-ons he’d been on the receiving end of forever told him he was handsome. He was more interested in being the best Army Ranger he could, spent most days knee-deep in jungle crap with paint on his face and men who only cared that he could shoot an M-14 with dizzying accuracy. There is a God. I’m looking for Damon Price. I’ll bet you are, the man said with a shake of his head. Shame, really, that they all want what they can’t have. I just need to talk to him. The man erupted into peals of girlish laughter and Tanner rolled his eyes.

I call the subplot a mystery because of the expert way that SE Jakes wrote the tension, suspense, and slow revelation of the impact and meaning it has for the character’s lives.

Before dying in that South American jungle, Jesse extracted a promise that won’t let Tanner rest until it’s fulfilled-no matter what it costs him. Damon Price loved Jesse, but problems in their relationship had come to a head right before Jesse left on his final mission. Here we have the deeply intense book #1 in SE Jakes "Men of Honor" series.
Army Ranger Tanner, 6'3", blonde, blue eyes, and tough as nails. Damon, 6'5", black haired and dressed in leather, ex Delta Force co-owns a BDSM Club. He's mourning the loss of his partner, Jesse, who served with Tanner, who held Jesse when he died.
Tanner has a message for Damon from Jesse; and a promise to the dying man. Tanner shows up to deliver the message and Damon is hurt and angry. (Let me tell you now, this story has BDSM, some humiliation and graphic details of previous abuse.)
Later when Tanner is drugged and bound by two men, Damon rescues him. With Damon's strength and understanding, Tanner finds the help he truly needed. Meanwhile Damon's business partner, JC, has kept secret, the violent attacks and rapes happening outside the Club. There are clues that point to their past. So, we have that mystery to solve and our MCs have conversations to deal with their relationship. Lots of dirty talk, and actions, hot erotic sex with spanking and bondage. There is also much emotion, with care and comfort.
They have deep thoughts and twisting feelings, and must reveal their pasts to heal. This is an intense tale of healing one's inner wounds to be able to find peace. It's so well written, interesting, sexual and action packed.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !

One of my most frequent complaints when reading m/m romance is that an author might have a good idea, but then the idea is badly executed. Reading the blurb and the first couple of chapters of this book, I thought this book might be the reverse: a really terrible idea but well executed. So I bought the book, curious to see whether this was the case. Let me tell you that it's not. The first couple of chapters are sort of good, but it's all downhill from there.

Tanner is a top who promises his dying army buddy Jesse that he'll leave it a year and then find Jesse's boyfriend to let the boyfriend top him. The boyfriend, Damon, runs a BDSM club. That's the set-up. I'll admit I have a soft spot for a) D/s fiction and b) the somewhat overused top-realises-he's-really-a-bottom trope. So I expected to like this book despite the utter silliness of that premise. It's just that it takes very good writing as well as a good insight into and understanding of the psychology behind such a role reversal for it to work. Rather than showing us how Tanner struggles to accept a new side of himself, we're told how he jumps back and forth between acceptance and denial. There is no natural, logical progression (no matter how difficult). Rather than two steps forward, one step back, it's one step forward, one step back, over and over, until finally Tanner and Damon work something out.

The writing - particularly past the first couple of chapters - isn't very good. There is a perspective problem that bugged me from start to finish. Even though I think the author has taken care to divide perspective ("this is Tanner's section, this is Damon's section," etc.), it is not clear in the text who is doing what. The opening line in chapter six for example: "Tanner came all over himself, just like Damon wanted." Is this from Tanner's perspective or Damon's? Because most of the narrative is like this, it is hard to ever get a clear character perspective of what is going on - which in turn means that it is hard to really get to know the characters.

And as an aside: I'm not sure how old these guys are supposed to be, but they have a recovery period shorter than even that of 15-year-old boys.

(Oh, and I almost forgot. There is a mystery in there somewhere, but if you blink you might miss it.)

In short: this was just silly. I don't recommend it and I will not read anything else by this author.

EDIT (November 3 2014): After giving S. E. Jakes another chance (somewhat against better judgement), she has become something of a go-to author for a quick, entertaining read. Fast-food romance, if you will. I maintain that this particular book isn't particularly good, but she has written other stuff that is genuinly entertaining.

First I want to say that this is the first book I have read by S.E. Jakes and it will not be the last. Holy cow does she know how to write a story with some hot alpha men from the military!

In Bound by Honor we meet Tanner James who is home from his latest mission with his own personal mission in mind. For Tanner on his last mission he lost a close member of his team Jesse. Tanner held Jesse while he died and Jesse made Tanner promise him something and Tanner told him he would. The thing is that Tanner promised Jesse he would follow through with his wishes and Tanner has never backed down from a promise.

So Tanner goes out to find Damon Jesse's boyfriend and what he finds is a broken and battered man full of anger and rage. When Tanner goes to the BDSM club to find Damon Jesse's boyfriend he is greeted with anger and once he tells Damon what Jesse's dying promise was Damon says straight out hell no! He tells Tanner that no matter what Jesse wanted he is not going to fulfill his dying wishes. Tanner not really wanting to deal with Damon and his attitude goes to leave the club but is called back by Damon and what Damon does to Tanner both pisses him off and scares him because it ignites something in him.

After leaving the club Tanner can't stop thinking about Damon and what happened just to him. While Damon is getting reamed out by Law for his behavior Damon admits he is intrigued by Tanner but does not want to get his heart broken again. But the more Tanner and Damon try to stay away from each other the more the seem to need each other. While all this is going on someone is hurting the guys from the club and Law does not want to burden Damon with what is going on but soon someone is attacked and Law has to tell Damon what is going on because the attacks are familiar to both men and they think they know who is behind it but could it be that person or is their minds playing tricks on them? Will Damon open his heart up to Tanner? Will Tanner let Damon in after Damon was so cruel to him?
