You, who call Frankenstein your friend, seem to have a knowledge of my crimes and his misfortunes. Bishop was born on February 8, 1911, in Worcester, Massachusetts. The instability of her childhood derived from the death of her father from kidney failure when she was eight months old and the permanent committal of her mother to an asylum five years later. From that point on, Bishop never saw her mother again. Deprived of interaction with her peers, she grew up among adult relatives. Placed with maternal grandparents in Great Village, Nova Scotia, Bishop attended a one-room school at age six.

Spanning five thousand years of human experience, from the Fertile Crescent to the inventor's lab, Mythic Plays includes four dramas evolved from collaboration with American theatres by playwrights Conrad Bishop and Elizabeth Fuller and their performance ensemble The Independent Eye. From Greek myth (Medea/Sacrament), Norse saga (Ragnarok: Doom of the Gods), Sumerian archetype (Descent of the Goddess Inanna) and Mary Shelley's "Modern Prometheus," Frankenstein, these plays offer models for a synthesis of poetry, physical theatre, and the immediate reality of myth.
