Re The Father of Her Child - Emma Darcy does a super sweet 'never judge another by hearsay' story with this HP outing. The h is a 29 yr divorced publicist for a big publisher and the H is a 35 yr uber wealthy divorced literary agent who also supports a lot of charities. Both of them escaped very, very bad marriages and are brought together when the h has to organize a book signing tour for one of the H's best selling authors. For me, there’s nothing remotely romantic about ONS.

His friend and client, Evan Daniel, continued talking, blithely ignorant of the effect of those two explosively evocative words. Initially a French/English teacher, Emma Darcy changed careers to computer programming before the happy demands of marriage and motherhood. Very much a people person, and always interested in relationships, she finds the world of romance fiction a thrilling one and the challenge of creating her own cast of characters very addictive.

For a book written in the 90s, the heroines characterisation was really good - some of the convoluted feelings/thoughts very understandable.

Hero was likeable. His takedown of the stalker ex was really fun.

All in all a fun read

I liked the characters and I liked the politics Lauren has to tip toe around to keep everything running smoothly in her PR work. Enter fire-breathing Michael with his pre-conceived ideas and the sparks fly. It's a little out there with H's over-the-top strategy to deal with horribly abusive stalky ex-husband, but hey, it's Mills and Boon. Thoroughly likeable.

Description from the book back cover:

Falling in love again ... Lauren Magee hadn't wanted or expected to. Yet when Michael Timberlane smiled at her across a crowded rom all her good resolutions went out of the window. Michael had also vowed to fall in love again. And the last woman he wanted to share his life with was Lauren. He had every reason to despise her ... and when she learned that he was out to break her heart she vowed never to see him again. Too late - for their one-night stand had consequences that would keep them together for ever ...

I really enjoyed reading a category romance that didn't quite fit the category. You know that really downbeat moment that comes about 80 per cent of the way through almost all category romances? This one didn't have it, but it DID have a smashing (literally) scene instead.

Candidate for worst title. Yes, it has no "virgin", "mistress", "billionaires", "revenge" or secretaries, but the title also has little bearing on what happens.

ED starts out with a potential revenge story that goes horribly, horribly wrong as in the hero gets a clue that his potential victim is actually the love of his life. In turn, with one weepy exception the heroine is an intelligent heroine that deserves a HEA.

The hero thinks that the heroine set up his worthless wife to divorce him in the name of feminists every where and wants revenge on her. When he finally meets her he realizes pretty quickly how wrong he was. He doesn't want the h to find out. Of course she does and it's unfortunate that it happens after they go to bed.

She has other bigger problems in the shape of an abusive ex husband. The H won my heart and I assume the heroine's when he takes care of it in a creative OTT way that the Corleone's would approve of. From his pointy Italian shoes, new expensive Italian suit and the goons he hires (the h's relatives), the scene is very fun, and it's nice to see some lightness and humor in an alpha hero.

Almost 4 stars.
