Entertaining, engaging and informational, The Referral of a Lifetime is packed with great insights and direction onhow to build a profitable, relational-based company and keep it that way, says Fred Johnson, Director of Marketing Personal Coaching Division, Franklin Covey. I really enjoyed reading the book "The Referral of A Lifetime" By Tim Templeton. It was simple, almost common sense but truly profound. To quote the forward this book offers "simple truths and profound wisdom". What I really liked about this book was it does not try to tell people how they should be, it tells you that you should be yourself and work with what your particular style is.

In The Referral of a Lifetime, author Tim Templeton frames a powerful plan for cultivating clients and customers in a fable about businesswoman Susie McCumber, who feels increasingly like a failure. Templeton shows how understanding one's type allows one to showcase strengths while improving weak areas in this simple, easy-to-use guide to success in business and in life.

Understand the value of your relationships...

Can you build a business and stay true to yourself? Can you develop a business and be pulled into sales rather than pushing? Can you stop having to make cold calls? The Referral of a Lifetime answers these questions and more. In an allegory-style, author Tim Templeton offers a new way of building a business around building relationships. He calls it "taking the highground". The Referral of a Life is a parable of business practiced with deep feeling, a transformation of thinking about how to live in this world as a business person.

This Audio book was so bad I couldn't get past the 1st chapter, I skipped the BS in the forward already, The voice of the man narrating is EXTREMELY irritating to listen to and you feel like a child being spoken down to by an adult. Especially when he tries to change his voice going back and forth between subjects. UGHHH AWFUL presentation, FAR TOO WORDY getting points across, and A WASTE OF TIME!

As a business coach, one of the main concerns of my self employed professional clients have is how to get enough customers to fill their practice. I belong to a referral based business club and recently, I have had an opportunity to see the toll taken by business people who have a "hunt and kill" mentality. The premise of "The Referral of a Lifetime" is that by nurturing a loyal client base in similar and related businesses, more like farming, you are able to build a self sustaining business that will reap rewards years ahead.

Now this is NOT the multi-level marketing model where I get you to produce to my benefit with the only promise is that you get OTHER people to promise benefit to you. (Don't get me started down that road!)

The key here is reciprocity. I give business to you and you will want to give business to me. Templeton talks about building networks of friends and business relationships that will last a lifetime based on excellent customer relations, integrity and generosity. Too often I have seen people in business so desperate to make a living that the wreck havoc where ever they go. I wonder to myself, do they really know that this won't work forever and that their "scorched earth" business plan will ultimately backfire?

I make this book required reading for my serious coaching clients and it is in my top 3 books that I recommend to any business person for long term success.

If you're new to sales or think you have no sales skills, this book is for you. If you love networking and meeting people, this book is for you.

I've purchased this book several times and gave it to folks who are new to sales or who just need to generate business. This book shows how to leverage your existing relationship. Read the book and then make the process your own. With email and social media--this just got so much easier.

It's a fast read--and you can take action immediately.

I first read an older edition of this and struggled to see the application, but when I read the newer edition it started to make a lot more sense. I love his treatment of relationships as the heart of running a business or making sales.

This book is so simple in its message and yet so profound. I started implementing the best practices last week and am already reaping the benefits of doing so. I you like living by The Golden Rule, being yourself, and serving people you'll love this book.

Networking has gotten to be a catch phrase for going to meet-ups and collecting as many business cards as possible while talking about yourself and your business. In this book, you learn to turn this system upside down and serve others while staying true to your own gifts and talents. The system requires commitment but it is relatively simple and rewarding. Can't wait to put it into practice.

This book was referred to me and it has definitely given me a sense of direction that I needed. Sales is a new adventure and I am way out of my comfort zone...ready to call it quits but at the same time, not wanting to because of the money and time already invested in getting my insurance licenses and the business start up costs. This book just confirmed that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I'm not alone in my frustrations and fears that I made a bad choice. I just need to stay the course and give it my all...remembering the Golden Rule!!!
I am not someone who likes or gets excited about sales. This book helped me to see that offering people what I do in business can actually be a part of the bigger picture of the relationship that I have with them. I am looking forward to using the strategies of this book to help me connect with people and add more and more value to their lives. Thank you Tim Templeton!
