I was given this set as a child by a favorite Auntie. As a grandmother, I was looking for things I'd read and loved and these are just amazing!

I remember doing homework and asking my mother how to spell a word and she always told me to get a dictionary. Well, this was the one I chose and was entertained and educated. I just purchased this dictionary for my sons and cannot wait until they ask me how to spell a word.

Book was shipped in excellent condition. No rips or tears. Looks as if I never used it 20 years ago!

The description wasn't clear about it only being letters A-B. I thought it was the full dictionary. I don't have a need for just 2 letters. I am disappointed.
The Charlie Brown Dictionary is based on the Rainbow Dictionary by Wendell Wright. It uses several methods to help kids understand what exactly a word means. The five main principles include:

1) A picture with its caption-delineating an object, illustrating an action, or illuminating an idea. Such as "full" - Lucy's basket is full. There is no more room in it for anything more.

2) The simple explanation of the meaning of the word. Such as "finish" - We will finish our work very soon. We will come to the end of our work very soon.

3) The use of the word in a sentence with additional facts to help clarify meaning. Such as "face" - The front part of your head is your face. Your eyes, nose, etc are on your face.

4) The use of the word and a synonymous word or phrase. Such as "leave" - Sally watches Charlie Brown leave the house. Sally watches Charlie Brown go away from the house.

5) The use of the word with its antonym. Such as "dirty" - Pig Pen's hands are dirty. Pig Pen is not clean.

Each page defines anywhere between 2-9 words, and are feature full color illustrations and single comic panels from the Peanuts line. Our kids love Snoopy so much that occasionally I've seen them literally reading the dictionary. This is a great book for early learners/readers. Highly recommended!
