The Dog Breed Bible has been added to your Cart. The descriptions and history is rather short. I expected more in depth facts considering it was called a Bible but what it does have is interesting. One person found this helpful.

The Rollers of Vildar

I bought this for my 8 year old because she loves learning about different dog breeds. This book is spiral bound which makes it very easy for her to leave open on a table and read through, without having to hold it down. Each breed has a description on it telling everything about the dog (history, temperament, upkeep, health). And on each page there is a cute little 'key guide' that rates the breeds energy level, exercise requirements, playfulness, affection level, friendliness to other pets, friendliness to strangers, ease of training, and grooming requirements. This book is great for anyone who loves to just learn about different breeds or if you're looking to adopt a dog and want to know the best one to fit your family. This has it all. Would highly recommend.

There are a thousand books about dogs out there and I have seen many of them. This particular one holds up well in comparison to the others. It has very good illustrations that clearly identify the physical features of each breed, along with basics about the breed's history and temperament.

I bought this for my uncle, who recently had a stroke and wants to get a service dog. It is spiral bound, which makes it easy for him to turn the pages, and it's not too heavy for him to hold. He has spent hours with it, deciding on the relative merits of this dog or that, and I am very satisfied that it entertains him, as well as providing reliable information.

This is a great book! Much better than described! It is brief and easy to understand, shows all breeds recognized by AKC. It is a bit out of date copy right is in 2007 i believe. The pictures I feel could be a bit better. Some of the small faces shown on the right of the full body picture looks very different to the canine full body picture. Not sure as to why. Also, I huge factor to me is it does not really say if particular breeds are better this small children than others, or if they can live in an apartment. Some breed's detailed summary touches it but I feel it is important point to touch over all. It is hardcover, and everyone in my family tries to steel it.

There is a disappointing lack of breeds in this book. For example, there's only information of one breed of mastiff, one breed of " "hound (excludes wolfhounds and only tells of one breed of deerhound), and "Bulldog".. There's a photo of an English with the generalized title of "Bulldog" and separately "French Bulldog", though nothing of American, Victorian, Old English, etc.
If yours is one of the few in this book, then I'm sure it's wonderful!

I bought this book for my 9 year old daughter who is always looking for information on animals. It is a very nice book on dogs with basic info. Most of the text is on the history of the breed, and then there is a little info under "temperament", "upkeep", and "health". There is also a chart that tells, generally, how affectionet they are, how playful they are, how much grooming they need, etc.

I'm sure there are books out there that have more info, but this is just what I wanted for my daughter... A nice beginner's guide to dogs.

My daughter, who hopes to be a vet someday, loves it. If you ask me, it's pretty dry reading, but then I'm not a dog person. It is what it claims to be...descriptions and photos of dogs; If that's what you're looking for, then you'll like it.

I gave it to my granddaughter for Christmas. She loves it. It's too bad that it didn't also come with a DVD so that she could watch it as well as reading about it.

I bought this as a birthday gift for my daughter. She appreciated the classification of each breed according to criteria such as ease of grooming, activity level, friendliness with strangers, etc. Each breed is featured in color. I highly recommend this book.
