Provided before and after pictures and detailed info about many of the CW restored houses and buildings. Discussed 18th C construction tools, materials, trades and costs. All in all a wealth of info that the author has compiled in one place. For those interested in colonial Williamsburg architecture it is a must have book.

This is an excellent reference for the prospective "antique" house builder. It is detailed and gives enough information that it would not be difficult for an architect to design a reproduction house utilizing the pictures and information contained herein. It can also lead one to other resources, including blueprints.

Bought the original and the update. Probably the best book on the subject. Recommended for anyone who wants to know how things were built in 18th century Virginia.

This is one of the books on Walt Disney's desk when he died. It's all about reassuring architecture, middle America, turn-of-the-century.
