Gave this to my 17 year old. She found the pages hard to rip out. She traced one and then transferred it to art paper before coloring it with oil pastels. The result is below.

Love this book! The dark areas are few, the lines vary throughout in width and you can really stretch your imagination. The artwork is detailed without being overwhelming, and in some areas, especially where the original art is simply colored background, there has been a little detail added to aid the person using.
Hoping that this company has produced other books, as I'd like to have more.

I'm so happy to get this! It has so many different styles of painting and so many different artists. If you want to color it as the artist did (personally, I think that is boring, but whatever milks your gurnsey), they offer pictures--though they are rather small. No matter--as these are famous works, you can probably find and print a copy online. They give a brief biography of the artists in the back. They give the picture name and the artist that did it. I look forward to learning a bit about the artists as well as relaxing with the coloring.

Of course, me personally, I'm not going to paint it like the artist. Mona Lisa is going to have pink skin with purple tribal tattoos and green hair. ;)

I was hoping to increase my skill level with colored pencils when I purchased this book, but was somewhat disappointed. There is a large selection of paintings representing many periods and my biggest issue is that there are so many black lines depicting folds in fabric, etc., that it leaves little room for being creative. So if you want to do your own shading, you really don't have the opportunity. For the most part, it's like a kid's coloring book. As someone else suggested, I have whited out the lines and then had pictures recopied on a copy machine. This results in thinner paper, unless you can get it copied on better stock. From other reviews I have read, many of the coloring books featuring famous paintings have similar dark line issues. I would highly recommend to the publishers to use fine lines instead. Also, some of the areas are colored in with solid black, which is unnecessary. Perhaps we should start a writing campaign to the publishers?

Each photo is a stand alone and there are perforated lines to make it easier to remove the picture. The quality of the paper is on the rough side and I have seen better in other books. The original renditions are in color and are small, however, a tip I have is to look the painting up on the internet and get a larger image. A plus is that each painting has a corresponding description of the artist and background information.

I would have given this a 2 star, however, among all of the books featuring great masters, I think this is the best.

For those considering buying it for kids, there are several paintings that have partial nudes, which can be easily removed.

My favorite coloring book continues to be the Alphonse Mucha by Gustave Baumann (Jan 1, 2011) coloring book.

I am so happy that I bought this colorbook. Papers are so thick and you could even use water colors on it. It is one drawing on each paper. It had pictures of the original masterpieces, but you could still use the coloring you want.
