During the Second World War, almost 150,000 church bells from towers all over Europe were melted down to support the Nazi war effort. These bells, taken from the Third Reich itself as well as from the occupied territories, were processed in the great refineries at Hamburg, labelled "the Belsen of Bells" by British observers in the postwar period. The bell confiscation campaign - though effective.

World War II was fought on many fronts and with many weapons. One of the most intriguing struggles..the intelligence war between Germany and the U.S. in Latin America... is also one of the least understood. Now, Leslie Rout and John Bratzel, experts in the the intelligence history of Latin America, detail this secret war of espionage and counterespionage in 'The Shadow War,' a vivid account of clandestine intelligence operations in Mexico, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina during World War II. More than just a record of intelligence activities, 'The Shadow War,' examines the historical background and diplomatic context, the personalities and organizational rivalry, and the hemispheric and global stakes of this secret struggle.

Amazing material. The chart with the names of the whole ring of spies captured in Buenos Aires respect the same info as I'm reading rigth now from the original archives of the Argentine court . Same thing with the chart tree of the complete nazi organization. Flabbergasting reference to build up a truly serious investigative report using the original sources of information. Well documented even though it was made outside Argentina and far away from the original documents in Buenos Aires.
