Fabulous Small Jews is a fabulous small book

Fabulous Small Jews is a fabulous small book. It was through this book that I just recently discovered, at the age of 75, that I like short stories. I have thought all my life that one of my sad deficiencies was that I just couldn’t seem to cultivate a taste for short stories. In one of his books, Essays in Biography, he describes his experience with an elderly blind man, Matthew Shanahan, who became a companion for whom Mr. Epstein developed a great affection.

In this book, Lee Shai Weissbach offers the first comprehensive portrait of small-town Jewish life in America. The book investigates topics ranging from migration patterns to occupational choices, from Jewish education and marriage strategies to congregational organization. The story of smaller Jewish communities attests to the richness and complexity of American Jewish history and also serves to remind us of the diversity of small-town society in times past. User reviews
When I published this book/anthology,it was a "first" in the catalog of personal social commitments. Since the 1997 publication date, this book has constantly been in demand by book sellers who have identified its uniqueness.
As an educator, as a clinical social worker and as one who values quality in providing information about a book of biographies who provided the heart of being an ethnic minority in a small town. Amazon.com is to be congratulated by advertising this book focusing the human aspects of one's very being.

very good book with true stories about ordinary people trying to practice Judaism in a very non-Jewish environment
