User reviews
My imaginary grandmother, cultured, strong and wise, meets Henry David Thoreau meets Leon Leonwood Bean. This little book is beyond the beyond sublime and precious. Even if you decide not to buy it, please give yourself the pleasure of reading the first few pages online and delighting in the illustrations. Published in 1915, the author's account is as fresh today as it would have been then. It took me right to the old woods of New England and upstate New York. I won't say another word so that the book can say it for me....
This book was all I hoped it would be except, when I went to the index to look up a specific subject, I found no index. So, I thought, I'll just look at the table of contents, that'll at least get me to the general area but alas, no table of contents either. I was shocked and very disappointed. Without these tools, the book is much more difficult to use.
