Once again author Dennis Jones masterfully transports us to a world of fiery conflict, terrible deceits, and awesome magicks - as perfidy and death threaten a new generation of The House of the Pandragore. THE MASK AND THE SORCERESS: Vol. II, the House of Pandragore. Пользовательский отзыв - Kirkus. Second part of Jones's projected fantasy trilogy (The Stone and the Maiden, 1999) about the Ascendancy and its rulers. Mandine Dascaris and Key Mec Brander now rule in peace. But Mandine's vicious.

Dennis Jones provides enough information from the previous book (see THE STONE AND THE MAIDEN) within the subplots so those in the audience who did not read that novel will understand how events reached the points in this fun to read story line. Genre fans will look forward to the final tale of the "House of the Pandragore" where good vs. evil in confrontation with the stakes being world domination.

Not as interesting as the first book, sadly. It follows the same sequel formula: original characters have a kid, kid goes on adventures, kid is the focus of the story, kid goes through things, brief cameos from original characters (parents), end. Nooooot enough to get me to want to read any of the following sequels.

Chapter two: the book thief. A black horse emerges suddenly from the mist. Now she had the two images in her mind she couldn’t shake them. She quickly changed into embroidered jeans and a pair of trainers, and pulling on a fleecy coat she grabbed her bicycle and set off. She cycled through the old winding streets of the town and out into the countryside surrounding it, she was surprised how she instinctively knew which way to go, which path to take.

Young Sorceress is a series for young adults.

A difficult task, as there has been no contact with this technically advanced society for twenty years, and they consider Rilla’s people to be nothing more than superstitious, ignorant barbarians.

Evil and madness flow through the bloodline of the troubled House of the Pandragore, threatening the stability of the throne and the future of the Ascendancy...

Seventeen centuries past, a great diviner locked the Deep Magic away forever with a powerful spell known as the Ban, deeming the primal sorcery too dangerous for use by humankind. But more than a millennium later, evil and ambition united to break the Ban in a savage war that nearly destroyed the great civilization of the Ascendancy. At dire cost Mandine and Key defeated that ferocious onslaught, and now rule their realm in a time of relative peace.

But the Deep Magic is chained no more, and war again threatens the royal house. For Mandine's exiled sister -- the treacherous and dangerously insane Theatana -- has escaped her prison with the inadvertent aid of raiders from a far-off country. Not only has the dark princess mastered her madness, she has discovered within herself seeds of the blackest sorcery which will help her ascend the throne she believes rightfully hers. Armed with new allies and power, she prepares to launch a merciless assault upon her own homeland...and her blood kin.

There is one, however, who is determined to thwart Theatana's implacable malice. Ilarion, heir to Key and Mandine, is prepared to pursue his mad aunt beyond the edges of the known world -- and to face untold peril on turbulent seas and in ancient lands -- in order to preserve the realm. But his path must cross hers at the very point where the world itself stands at the brink of catastrophe: on an island bitterly divided between sister and brother, goddess and god. It is here that Ilarion and Theatana both will be thrust into the seething heart of a tumultuous contest -- as the true power of an ancient tool of ritual is revealed...and the Deep Magic stirs dangerously from its long slumber.

Once again author Dennis Jones masterfully transports us to a world of fiery conflict, terrible deceits, and awesome magicks -- as perfidy and death threaten a new generation of The House of the Pandragore.

I remember the 1st book being very good and thought it was going to be a long series of 3 or 4 books. It took me forever to get the 2nd volume and it appears it is also the final volume. If there are more somewhere please let me know. This book was ok but not as good as the 1st one. In places it seemed like he was in a hurry to get it over with! Overall the book was ok but not totally satisfying. I hope he didn't quit his day job.

Second book of an unfinished trilogy. I had been unable to find it before; pleased to finally do so. Book was in good shape.

Evil beings broke the Ban that safely locked away the Deep Magic, leading to a vicious war. Though the forces of good won, one malevolent individual Theatana, sister to the ruler of Ascendancy escapes. Her nephew Ilarion, knowing his aunt is a dangerous lunatic, pursues her in an attempt to stop her spreading madness before civil war II further decimates the country.

Though insane, Theatana begins to accumulate allies while her foe struggles to simply survive. However, Ilarion finally catches up with his aunt on an island on the edge of the world where the magically powerful Mask of the Adversary can be found and, if harnessed, should lead to easy victory.

THE MASK AND THE SORCERESS is an entertaining epic fantasy that though part of a series can stand alone (what a unique thought for the genre). Dennis Jones provides enough information from the previous book (see THE STONE AND THE MAIDEN) within the subplots so those in the audience who did not read that novel will understand how events reached the points in this fun to read story line. Genre fans will look forward to the final tale of the "House of the Pandragore" where good vs. evil in confrontation with the stakes being world domination.

ok, i loved dennis jone's "the stone and the maiden", he created a new world and it was wonderful, and it took my breath away.....i truly loved the first one, so naturally i got the second
would u beilve it was better than the first.
u leave off with the new dynast and dynastessa, with a newly born child]
in the second book, the boy is grown up and has a sister
he is a good sailor and ends up in a huge storm
would ya know it.....it leads him to a new world and place were things are ultimatly different and strange, and life is mostly cruel.
As well as the dynastessa's sister being imprisioned on an island.....a group frm the new world bombard it and take her to this new world.
then conflict starts with the new prince and the fugative.
they both get caught up in a war between sister and brother, ruling the island....where the brother is cruel...and the sister a young but wise ruler.....
both the prince and the fugative get caught on oppisite ends.....
if i tell u more i might give things away.....so i recomend reading this book to find out what is happening

Dennis Jones took me (a neophyte to this genre of fiction) on a spell-binding journey to a world I never knew existed and on the way made a fantasy believer out of me! Having read his "Stone and the Maiden", I could hardly wait to embark on this new adventure and what a breathtaking one it was! I loved every page of this richly written and amazing tale. Bravo!
