Eyewitness Books (or Eyewitness Guides) is a series of nonfiction books intended for children and young adults. They were first published in England by Dorling Kindersley in 1988. The series now has over one hundred titles on a variety of subjects, such as dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt, flags, chemistry, music, the solar system, film, and William Shakespeare.

Part of the "Eyewitness Science" series, this book shows the reader the way the world works - governed by basic principles of force and motion. This visual exploration first investigated by the Greeks, shows how machines were developed to exploit those principles, and how thinking was re-evaluated in the 20th century. The book demonstrates the original experiments, and explains the principles behind the major scientific inventions and concepts. Specially-commissioned photographs and text written by experts in their own fields make the most intriguing theories accessible. It captures the spirit of earlier ages by showing the original equipment and instruments used in scientific experiments. "Eyewitness Science" is a series of visual guides that opens up the world of science, and explains the principles affecting people's daily lives. All the fields of science are encompassed - from relativity to genetics - to build up into an encyclopaedic series. The reader is invited to step into the shoes of the scientists and relive the thrill of scientific breakthrough.
