Steven Kroll, an Author of Children’s Books, Dies at 69. By DENNIS HEVESIMARCH 15, 2011. Continue reading the main story. Mr. Kroll wrote 96 books, some of them touching on the joys of playing cowboys and Indians and stickball near the Hudson River in Riverside Park, a block from the West End Avenue apartment building in which he grew up. His first book, Is Milton Missing? (1975), is a fantasy about a small boy wondering how his very large dog could have somehow gotten lost in his family’s tiny apartment.

In this tale of Halloween mischief, Maggie the Witch tries to get her family's attention by casting some topsy-turvy spells.

I ordered it because I had it as a child. As remembered, it is a charming Halloween story. It's probably most appealing for ages 4-8, but it is not scary and has simple, cute illustrations. Marilyn Hafner is the illustrator and she also did the illustrations for "It's Halloween", a collection of poems by Jack Prelutsky. If you enjoy that, you will probably also enjoy this book.

This was my favorite book when I was a kid. I bought it for my daughter and she loves it just as much. The book was used but came in very good shape.
