Thong's observance on the fleeting nature of childhood is wryly sentimental. Affecting without being maudlin, Thong's tale is one for daughters and their families to treasure. Energetic verses detail a young girl's development from babyhood to early childhood with a glance toward the future. With thoughtful reflection, Thong captures each stage of development and wraps it up for readers in sprightly verse that may just bring a tear to the eyes of parents everywhere. From splashy tub times and exuberant self-feedings to increasing independence, Thong neatly balances the poignancy of watching a beloved child grow up with humor.

My daughter & I love this!

A friend who is a librarian recommended this. I checked it out & read it to my then 10/11-month old daughter. I'd that day just packed up all her 0 - 9 month clothes to pass on & was marveling on how she was growing SO FAST and then I read this and am totally chocked up by the end. A lovely rhyming tale with gorgeous illustrations. The Tummy Girl looks so much like my own I marvel at that as well. I love it & plan to make this part of our Saturday wake up & bed time ritual with my fast growing TG!

We own a couple of Roseanne Thong books that my 22 month old daughter and I both love (Red is a Dragon and Round is a Mooncake), so I picked this one up when we came across it at the library last week. It is a hit with my daughter, and it is now my favorite baby book! It is sweet and adorable and fun to read, and it so beautifully portrays how much a parent cherishes every stage of her child's life.

This book is basically a poem about a baby girl who goes through the various adorable stages of being a baby, toddler, and little girl. When I start reading the last verse that begins with "Soon you'll be an older girl..." I always have a lump in my throat because the prose is just so touching and makes me think of how quickly little ones change and grow from pot bellied babies to little independent people.

This is a perfect book for reading to a little girl. I love it so much I'm planning on buying a copy to keep and a few to give as gifts to parents of girls.

We love this book so much we are trying to encourage the publisher to starting printing it again! Adorable pictures and very sweet sentiments. It was a favorite for our daughter starting around age three and we have given it as a gift for newborn baby girls!

As an elementary librarian, I have the opportunity to review many books each year. Tummy Girl is delightful. I bought an extra copy for my granddaughter as well as a copy for our school library. An endearing little picture book.
